Benjamin Moore' Main Street Matters

Main Street Matters on Quinpool Road
Throughout May and June and throughtout 2014 Benjamin Moore painted Quinpool Road focusing on the stretch from Harvard Street to Monastery Lane – while shopkeepers up and down were inspired to spruce up the streetscape altogether. We've "painted what matters" with a sense of civic pride.

Paul Susnis Benjamin Moore Signature Stores are proud to have played a part in this revitalization, and we salute shopkeepers and property owners up and down Quinpool Road for making the most of this opportunity to spruce up our city!

Benjamin Moore Selects Quinpool Road for Mainstreet Make Over
Quinpool Road has been selected as one of only three Mainstreets in Canada to win a ‘ Paint What Matters’ Makeover from Benjamin Moore. The contest, which was launched May 16, 2013 and began with 100 cities in North America, is Benjamin Moore’s biggest initiative ever to revitalize communities across North America.

“We’re thrilled to announce Quinpool Road as the location of our Main Street Matters revitalization efforts in Halifax,” said Nick Harris, Vice President of Marketing for Benjamin Moore & Co. “We look forward to working with our local dealer to bring our color and paint expertise to revitalize this vibrant and diverse business community.”

“Our members couldn’t be happier to receive such an incredibly generous gift that will dovetail perfectly with our current façade improvement on our bustling mainstreet”, says Karla Nicholson, General Manager of the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association.

“We were blown away when we first heard about this contest – this brilliant marketing campaign that would breathe new life into twenty Mainstreets in North America, Our mainstreet lends itself perfectly to such a contest, and we wanted to be a part of it – we wanted to win.

Quinpool Road members and volunteers immediately sprang into action to develop what became the basis for our entire city’s bid for recognition. The Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association created an ambitious campaign, involving our members to draw attention to the cause, we employed print flyers, window signs and even enlisted the help of our Mayor to promote our city’s chances.

Everyone on the street seemed to get involved and we used every channel available to get the word out, including social media (Facebook, Twitter), and even videos of folks on the street making their pitch to paint what matters.

“Quinpool Road truly embodies the notion of mainstreet with a tightly knit community of independent, and many family owned retailers and businesses with a long history in this central Halifax neighborhood”.

Painting What Matters on Quinpool Road will make a highly significant positive visual change for our city, as our street has some of the highest visibility in the city, with daily traffic of 30,000 vehicles (not to mention the foot traffic from nearby residential and university populations).

We are truly grateful to everyone involved in this contest. We commend Benjamin Moore for showing us that Mainstreets really do matter. We have met with them and realize that the scope of this prize goes above and beyond our greatest expectations. And the fact that they are offering this to 20 Mainstreets on an ongoing basis is a real testimony to their dedication to revitalizing Mainstreets in North America. We are also extremely proud of our Mayor, Mike Savage for being a creative leader and champion for this city by emulating Brad Pitt in two videos that catapulted Halifax to receive one of the coveted top 20 spots in North America. It is a great day for Halifax, and a great day for Quinpool Road.
